About us

Microtest AG is for more than 50 years specializing in measurement of internal diameters.

Through permanent optimization, constant further development, and improvement,
our measuring instruments have reached a very
high standard of precision, reliability, and universality for the high requirements of our customers.

Our products are in use all over the world

and guarantee the highest precision over long periods of use.

  • What is an inside micrometer and what is it used for?
The internal micrometer is a precision instrument used to accurately measure the internal dimensions of workpieces. It is particularly used in metalworking and manufacturing when exact diameters need to be determined.
  • What are the advantages of our MICROTEST® 3-point inside micrometer?
Huge measuring range from Ø 30 to 400 mm is covered with 6 instruments. Max. Ø 1150 mm Highest precision: Error limit ± 2 µm up to Ø 140 mm / ± 4 µm up to Ø 400 mm, repeatability ± 1 µm 1 revolution = 1 mm. Display of 1 mm, 0.01 (100 divisions/rev), 0.001 (Vernier) no reading errors, no calculations! Automatic self-centering for easy and safe handling Blind hole measurement down to the bottom, even for deep boreholes. Can be extended over several meters without loss of accuracy Thermally protected and thermal compensating construction Automatic, linear wear correction through simple adjustment Cost reduction through high measuring range Savings on calibration and certification costs Highly accurate, durable performance, low cost SwissMade A detailed description of our system and its advantages can be found
  • What accuracy can I expect from the internal micrometer?
  • Which units does the inside micrometer support?
Our digital internal micrometers support millimeters and inches. You can easily set the units you want according to your requirements.
  • How do I calibrate the inside micrometer?
Calibrating our internal micrometer is simple and easy to use. Each unit is calibrated before shipping, but we still recommend regular checks to ensure accuracy is maintained. Detailed instructions can be found in the attached manual.
  • How do I adjust the inside micrometer?
The MICROTEST® internal micrometer is placed in the setting ring in the measuring stop, the slotted screw on the vernier ring is loosened and the vernier scale is set to the setting dimension. Then the vernier ring is lightly secured again with the slotted screw. Please ensure that the device and the setting ring are at the same temperature. (Leave the device in the measuring stop in the setting ring for approx. 1 hour beforehand.) When adjusting, it is essential to take the measurement error according to the inspection certificate into account. Adjust the setting ring deviation and device error according to the certificate.
  • What to do if the inside micrometer is stiff?
Check whether the vernier ring is rubbing against the scale drum. If this is the case, loosen the vernier ring and reattach it with a little play. Clean the outside of the inside micrometer. When extended, check whether the measuring probes are dirty.
  • Does the inside micrometer require regular calibration?
To ensure the accuracy of your internal micrometer, we recommend regular calibrations. This can either be done in-house or you can contact our customer service department for calibration assistance.
  • Can repairs be carried out by yourself?
We advise against carrying out repairs yourself.
  • How do I maintain the inside micrometer to maximize its lifespan?
To maximize the lifespan of your internal micrometer, we recommend that you clean it carefully after each use and ensure that it is stored correctly. Avoid shocks and extreme temperatures to protect the sensitive components. If treated carefully, the MICROTEST® internal micrometer will not require any maintenance for a long time, but the outside of the device should be cleaned occasionally with methylated spirits (ethyl alcohol) or similar. Important: Do not touch the plastic parts with non-polar solvents.
  • Can the inside micrometer be damaged by shrinking the workpiece?
Avoid leaving the internal micrometer in a hot workpiece. There is a risk of damage due to shrinkage of the workpiece.
  • Can I get spare parts for the inside micrometer?
Yes, we offer spare parts for our internal micrometer. You can contact our customer service to order the parts you need and for receiving further assistance.
